Some missing swords?
I jsut bought myself the Guild Wars Prima Game Guide and I got a real supprise when I got to the drops section.
It seems in the list of swords that drop still include some ones that have been removed and some I have never even heard of.
Heres a list of swords that it says still drop but I have never seen.
Shadow Blade
Canthan Blade
Canthan Machete
Canthan Saber
Canthan Short Sword
Crusader's Sword
Krytan Sword
Rekki Blade
Sephis Sword
Shinning Gladius
Wyvern Blade
If some of these swords do drop( or use to) can you please post a screen shot?
Its not jsut swords though theres alot of Shields, Axes and Staves.

HAHAHA
Pleeeeease don't tell me you paid money for the PRIMA guide.....
Literally, I think they just made stuff up and put it in there. Seriously, just take that book and throw it right out the window, it will do nothing but cause you trouble. You CANNOT make an accurate printed guide for an MMO, they change constantly. I'm sure you will find MANY other strange things in that book, its actually quite humorous....to me anyway, I didn't pay for it

I hate to say that the Prima guide is useless, it may have some nice maps or something, but essentially all info in it is either available online, unconfirmed or just plain wrong.
As for the swords, some of them did exist, but were removed either during betas or shortly after, or renamed.

It says nightmares drop ecto!
It must be right
Two questions.
Why did they make certain items almost impossilbe to find?
And why did they remove other like the Shadow Blade.
Oh and I got the Guide for 5 Euro, was on sale

I bought it for the pull-out map, which is now on the wall above my computer. Yes... I am a nerd. And yes... I am ok with that. How are you?
For a real laugh... check out some of the "build suggestions" in there.

i got it. fairly soon after release. it was still (reletively) up-to-date. now however... everything is different.
it says that you can get Ecto from the eyes of the storm rider dudes outside of serenity temple.
it DOES have the bonus's... but i've been through this game sooo many times that i know them all off by heart now. i sometimes read it for an over all idea on what a skill does. but it is rarely right.

anyway, that guide is probably written before GW even goes into beta. imagine how out-dated it can be after about 39 GW major updates.

You didn't pay for it, thus how can you accurately judge? That goes for all of you.
It was printed at the date of final release of the game. I've used it to find skill locations, quests I need to do to get certain things, pet locations, armour and weapon costs, build assistance and other things, among them the quest and bonus help. Therefore your opinion can't be accounted as accurate.
And it was half price with 2 copies of GW, how could I resist?

not saying it's useless, just saying don't study it like a bible. of course, something never changed/changes, like collector location, skill trainer etc. and the guide will be useful for that.

Either way, you should al ltake it for what it was meant to be; a generic yet handy reference that can go to and utilize for simple ideas/locations/understandings while still running the game.
Is some of it out of date? oh yes..some of it is quite funny too.
all in all, it still has its uses. Even I use it still elite skills most bosses are still listed as is in it, and if working on experimental chars it does help to run mock ideas in my mind.
Besides, I've never liked the idea of multi-tasking windows while running game same time just to find a suddenly inspired information search. :P

Just because I didn't pay for it doesn't mean I haven't seen it. My friend bought it and it was a complete waste of money. It is absolute rubbish, there is nothing in there that can't be easily found on any fansite, not to mention its much less accurate. A complete waste of money, IMO. Yes, I know it was printed at the time of release. But that's no excuse. They are selling an outdated guide. Plus, they have things in there that I have never heard of, AND I HAVE BEEN PLAYING SINCE THE BWEs LAST OCTOBER! The guide is go-red-engine-ing crap, plain and simple.

Its nice to have so that I don't have to go to the equally as crappy fansites. Have you looked at some of those fansites? Forums are the only thing that stays up to date, and I will switch to window mode and surf the forums for my answer, if the guide doesn't have it.
The guide is currently my checklist for skill unlocks, as I can't keep deleting one of my four characters to see what I still need to get. It was great to have that sitting in front of me, with a perfect map and shows me exactly what to do for missions and bonuses.
It isn't a total waste of money.
I have played all the betas too, and I've finished the game and played it enough that I don't need the guide now, but yes, I felt it was worth the measly $20 spent on it. Its been a great help with skills, and missions. I've even used the maps of areas to run people places that typical runners don't go.
If you really expect something like this to be up to date, then maybe you should read more about the process of publishing something like this and consider how silly that opinion is.

i actually got my first ecto from a nightmare, waaaaaaaaaaaaaay before i knew what fissure armor was, and a while later i thought i made a killing selling it to someone for 1k(before traders)
nightmares dont drop it very often though, but it can happen, and the book has alot of errors, but it is good for the maps, and bonuses and whatnot
